Thanks to the successful cooperation between the structural engineering department and the acoustics department, De Steiger Residence is a building not only made entirely of wood but also satisfies acoustic comfort requirements. The structure consists of 100 per cent CLT, including the lift and staircase cores. In this way, it is possible to limit the shell construction phase to a few weeks. Difficult connections between a timber structure and a concrete structure (which is never 100 per cent dimensionally stable) are also avoided in this way.
The project for 2 x 32 service flats was designed in CLT to reduce the construction time as much as possible. Thanks to a thorough study of the structural design, the volume of wood needed was also limited to an absolute minimum. This also makes the project a success in terms of cost price.
