Centralising and optimising goods flows on the Pfizer Puurs site is a key enabler for the future growth of the site. A new logistics centre with automated high-bay warehouse and AGV system was designed to carry out the required optimisations without sacrificing flexibility.
Van Looy Group was appointed for the MHE concept design and engineering of the structural and special techniques.
- 3,400 m² ground area shipping/receiving + 2,650 m² high-rise building

- 13,020 non-refrigerated + 1,200 refrigerated pallet locations (using internal slave pallets)
- 6 ASRS pallet cranes (5 non-refrigerated aisles, single deep + 1 refrigerated aisle, double deep)
- Pallet conveyor system over 2 floors with connection to utilities building
- Temperature control in multiple zones and regimes
- Pfizer Puurs constitutes Pfizer's second largest production site worldwide for the production of aseptic drugs and Pfizer's largest packaging unit in Europe.
- In total, the Puurs site employs more than 1,500 people who annually produce, package and prepare over 300 million sterile units for export to more than 170 countries.
The plant was established in 1963 by Upjohn and acquired by Pfizer in 2003. Since then, the manufacturing unit has been an important link in Pfizer's global network.
