VK is part of the winning design team for Egied Van Broeckhovenschool
About
Now that the Alheembouw - BAM Consortium - ABC 02 for short - has been designated as Preferred Bidder, the Egied van Broeckhoven School will be the first project with a concrete face within a major DBFM programme of the Flemish Government - under the impetus of Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts - which will realise some 40 school construction projects via a public-private partnership. VK is the engineering partner in this project.
The new school will offer a unique combination of ASO, TSO and BSO disciplines within two domains of study: the science domain 'STEM' and the care domain 'Society and Welfare'.

In total, approximately 250,000m² of new school buildings will be built. In this way, Flanders is continuing to invest in high-quality infrastructure for education.
The Alheembouw - BAM PPP PGGM Infrastructure Coöperatie U.A. consortium is therefore pleased to have been selected as the preferred bidder by vzw Ignatius Scholen in Beweging for the new Dutch-language Jesuit school in Molenbeek, which will ease the pressure on the popular Dutch-language education system in Brussels. In addition to classrooms for practical and theoretical subjects, the new school building will also contain project rooms, an auditorium, an open learning landscape, a multifunctional area, a sports hall, ...
A DBFM agreement between the experienced consortium and the school board should result in the construction of a new school according to the design by B2Ai architects in collaboration with VK architects+engineers, which will take care of the structural engineering, techniques, EPB, acoustics and sustainability, and Stefaan Thiers landscape architect. Alheembouw has repeatedly demonstrated its expertise in Design & Build projects. BAM PPP PGGM Infrastructure Coöperatie U.A. has the know-how in terms of financing, while BAM FM will act as a maintenance partner.
The Egied van Broeckhoven School is a project by the non-profit organisation Ignatiaanse Scholen in Beweging, which is building a brand-new estate school in the former Vandenheuvel brewery buildings within walking distance of the West Station in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. The new school will offer a unique combination of ASO, TSO and BSO disciplines within two domains of study: the science domain 'STEM' and the care domain 'Society and Welfare'. At cruising speed, 860 pupils will be taught at the school, where they will be able to follow transition courses, technical courses and vocational courses with a view to the labour market.
It is the first time that the Jesuits, within their Ignatian pedagogical network, have established a Dutch-language school for general, technical and vocational education. For this, they were inspired by Egied Van Broeckhoven, a Jesuit priest and worker who was active in Cureghem in the sixties. With this new school, the Dutch-speaking education system in Brussels also tries to meet the capital's capacity needs in secondary education.
Outside school hours the school will also be a meeting place for young people from the neighbourhood. In this way, the Egied van Broeckhoven School provides connection and opportunities in a neighbourhood that is a melting pot of different cultures and religions. In this way, the school wants to actively involve itself in a process of community building. It does not function as an island, and it does not want to cut itself off from its immediate surroundings or the wider community. It is part of its immediate surroundings and the social fabric of the city.
